    Healthy drinking

Have you ever heard of a functional health beverage? What in the world makes a beverage functional? The Answer is xanthones.  Wikipedia defines a xanthone as an organic compound with the molecular formula of C13H8O2. The chemical structure of xanthone forms the central core of a variety of naturally occurring organic compounds. What? In plainer language this means that there are foods known that have a large supply of antioxidants and phytonutrients.

The mangosteen fruit grown in South East Asia has the most xanthones discovered by man to this day. Local folklore calls the mangosteen the queen of fruit. The Legend has it that Queen Victoria would provide knighthood to anyone who could bring back an edible whole mangosteen. The nutritional value of this fruit has been known to help patients with asthma, heart disease, and cancer. The medicine men in Thailand have been grinding the rind and using it as a salve for rashes, burns, and eczema.

Joe Morton traveled to South East Asia and discovered the mangosteen. He soon produced a functional health beverage known as XanGo. XanGo can be used as a preventive. It is suggested that 6 ounces of this juice per day is a great supplement for a healthy lifestyle. The product is 100% natural with no additives and no sugar added. It is a delicious addition to any diet.

    Calistoga

Calistoga California is a town with historic charm. It doesn't hurt that it is located in Napa Valley. The Wine Way Inn is near the historic downtown area. A short stroll will bring any guest to many restaurants, shopping, and spas. A short drive will get you to wineries and even more spas. This Napa Valley Inn has very friendly staff that can direct you magnificent winery tours and elegant spas.

The most amazing thing about the spas in Calistoga are the natural mud baths. Calistoga is famous for the mud baths. You should not leave this area without experiencing this treatment. The mud has a rejuvenating effect on the skin. There are many spas in the area that offer this unique and special experience.

    Beauty Academy

This may seem quite surprising to you. I had never thought of this idea until a friend suggested it to me. If you would like an inexpensive massage try the local beauty academy. The students are maseusses in training. They need to practice on live victims to be certified. So, if you are a willing contender. You should check it out. It is not a professional massage, but the results are quite good. I had heard that there is a decent one in Glenwood Springs CO.

    Crested Butte Lodging

Crested Butte in Colorado is a great little ski town. Though it is also a great place in the summer as well. Crested Butte is different from a lot of the other resort towns in Colorado. It is off of the beaten track. It is harder to get to because it is not just right off of I-70 which is the main highway through Colorado. However, because of its location, it is more pristine and not as well known. It is much like a hidden gem in the Rocky mountains.

The downtown area is still quaint and very friendly. Sadly though a lot of the Crested Butte lodging has turned very commercial. There are a lot of highrise condominiums near the base of the mountain and the ski slopes. A nice alternative is the The Nordic Inn. It is a Scandinavian style bed and breakfast inn. The views from the rooms are great and the parking is right by the building.

There are so many choices for spa treatments in Crested Butte. The Purple Mountain Lodge sticks in my mind because I really like the name. I was surprised though at how many choices there are when looking at spas in Crested Butte. The town itself is not very large, but the valley is actually quite wide which lends itself to more space for building.

    Camden Maine

Maine is a fabulous state and there are so many beautiful areas of this state. I had the pleasure of traveling to Camden Maine on Penobscot Bay. I found some wonderful spas using Spa Finder. The Four Seasons Beauty and Wellness Spa really focuses on health and wellness. During my visit there, I was given woinderful advice on how to care for my skin. They gave suggestions not only on products that would be good for my really dry skin, but they also suggested ways to change my diet that would also help with the flaky skin I get on my legs during the winter. I felt really great after I left there; not only because of my treatment, but my attitude was great too.

Here are some great places to stay in the area. Check out out the Camden Inns of Maine.  They are all bed and breakfasts that are located in different areas of town. Each is a glorious home that has been lovingly taken care of. Each one looks like a post card of picturesque New England. Choose to stay by the harbor, in town, or more remote.

    Beaver Creek Colorado

A bunch of my scuba dive buddies have decided that they want to come visit me. My place is too small to accommodate them all. They want a fancy place to stay. Well, my first thought went to Beaver Creek. After all this town has been good enough for the likes of a few presidents. I like the ambience and the smaller town atsmophere of Beaver Creek better than the more ritzy Aspen or Vail. I also think that it is prettier too because it tucked back into the mountains away from the Interstate.
I did some searching a found a luxury rental vacation home. Dean Johnson Management offers all sorts of deluxe rental properties from 1- 7 bedrooms. I guess the size that I need will depend on how many people decide to come. They won't be disappointed in the accommodations though. Just look at the pictures that I included. I will have to get dibbs on the garage though. I hate scraping windows.
I also did some research on the spas in the area. The Hyatt seems to have the most intriguing spa in the area. They just did a 12 million dollar renovation. They also have a natural healing water springs that they include in their spa. I can't wait to see it.

    Midwest

I went to a belly dancing contest with my belly dance club. It was held in Grand Forks North Dakota. I was surprised that such a contest would be held up north in the winter. After all our costumes are not very warm. So, I chose to stay in the same hotel that the contest was being held in. This way, I figured that I could avoid having to get around in the cold.

The contest was held at Select Inn. Sadly, there is not a spa in this family and pet friendly hotel. However, they did have hot coffee and tea in the lobby at all times. Plus they serve a continental breakfast. So, I did not have to venture out into the cold to find coofee and breakfast during the chilliest hours of the day.

While the contest kept me busy most of the time, I did manage to sneak away. I needed a pedicure before our first performance. After all the judges notice everything and I had some rough spots on my feet. So, I headed to Unique Impressions. Once I explained my situation, they graciously got me right in. I was so pleased. Once I got there, they whisked me into a private room. I couldn't believe it. Usually manicures and pedicures are done in an open area and the private rooms are reserved for facials, massages, and other treatments. The room was so warm and slightly steamy. Lisa explained to me that pedicures are best done in a slightly moist environment so as not to damage the new skin as the old skin iss buffed off. I was in heaven. She did a fabulous job. If ever I am back in Grand Forks, I would love to try some of their other treatments.

    San Juan Yachts

I just had the most fun that I have had in a long time. The MV Glory is a luxury yacht charter
that sails in the San Juan Islands. This boat is amazing. It has teakwood and beautiful tables. Of course, I loved the professional kitchen. I am one of those people who really enjoys cooking. So, I loved going shopping and bringing all of my food on board and preparing meals for my friends and me. This ship lives up to its name. It was glorious.

I went scuba diving every day. Each day I saw different things. Of course, we had to wear wetsuits. The water is quite cold off of the Washington Coast. The water was so clear. I did not expect it to be. For some reason, I had this preconceived notion that northern waters would be cloudy and mirky due to the melt off from glaciers and snow pack. I was so wrong. The undersea life is so different from tropical environments.

One of our stops was Orcas Island where we stayed overnight. This place called Doe Bay attracts a funky collection of people: mostly a cross between hippy/spritualist/naturalist and a curious mix of Seattlites looking for a peaceful retreat. They have a very good natural foods cafe. The nude natural hot springs are really great. After a day in the cold water, the hot springs were quite welcome.

    Shore House Lake Tahoe

I just love Lake Tahoe Vacations. One of my girlfriends lives in Reno. So, it is so much fun to take the family to Tahoe and get to see Roberta. I have known her since I was 6 years old. She helped me find this great place called Shore House. She knows me well. She knows that I live for the spa. I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have  treatment at least once a week. So, she didn't disappoint me. She picked a great place that offers spa treatments.

We spent the day together on the ski slopes. She is much better than I am. It was fun though. She had to head off to work for the evening shift. I headed back to the hotel and was excited because I had signed up for a late afternoon massage. They have a massage studio at the hotel. I usually like to have a massage in my room, but this worked out fine. It was the first time that I had been massaged by a male. So actually I was a little nervous and was glad that it was not in my room. I feared that his touch might be too rough and a little strong, but I was wrong. His hands were soft and he applied just the right pressure. He was also sensitive to the fact that I had been riding my board on the mountain and was sure to get the kinks out.

The rooms were quite different from what I am used to, but were appropriate to the area. I am generally not into the mountain pine log thing, but the rooms were cozy and I wasn't there much anyway. I did like the view of the lake right from my room. It was nice to sip my morning drink and look outside. I am such a nature girl.

    Crested Butte

Crested Butte is one of my favorite romatic getaways. It is a bit longer drive than a jot up I-70, but it is well worth it. The snow this year is absolutlely fantastic. While Denver has gotten pasted with two snowstorms in a two week period, the mountains have claimed a lot of this snow as well which makes for great skiing and boarding. I love to ride the fresh powder. There is no better place to do this than the slopes in Crested Butte. The people there are very friendly. You do not get the snobbish glares that you receive in Aspen or Vail. I have many nice conversations with people on the lifts, in the stores, the restaurants, and even the gas station.

Of course, after a long day of riding I truly enjoy visiting the spa. There is nothing like a nice massage a sit in the sauna after a day of skiing. The massage works out all of the sore kinks and the sauna warms the muscles and the toes and fingers.

    Bathsheba Guest Houses

I came across the most fabulous fresh water tidal pools to soak in. The East side of the island of Barbados is practically desserted. I love that aspect because it really gives me the chance to relax and get away from the large crowds. The East side also has these natural pools on Bathsheba Beach to soak in. It is so relaxing and so much fun. I really enjoyed watching the little fish dart in and out of the shadows. The small hermit crabs were a real hoot to play with.  Also there were a few surfers there too who said the waves are so much better on the east side of the island. Apparently there is this annual competition in Barbados at the Soup Bowl for surfers. I loved watching the surfers from The Bathesheba Guest Houses. I could laze around in the tropical gardens and watch the colors of the ocean change and sparkle in the sun as the surfers rode the waves. It was truly great.

    Beechwood Hotel

The Beechwood Hotel is Worcester's only luxury boutique hotel offering a combination of world-class accommodations, award-winning dining and impeccable personal service. Renovations in 2001 have added to the hotel's charm, comfort and convenience, including luxurious, newly redecorated guest rooms and suites, a 24-hour Business Center, and over 7,500 square feet of flexible meeting space. The hotel's quiet and tranquil campus-like setting is part of Massachusetts Biotech Park, which is centrally located in Worcester.

The architecture of this Worcester hotel building is known throughout the area for its round tower of rooms. The spa and workout facilities are used by locals as well as guests of the hotel. In fact, I was quite surprised to talk with many locals while I was here. They came here for the exceptional spa services and clean gym facilities. I was impressed to see full time staff disinfecting and cleaning the workout machines and wiping down the handles of the treadmills, door handles and so on.

    Perfect Drive

If you have a real golf afficianado in your life, then I highly suggest a visit to this PGA Village in Florida. The Perfect Drive Golf Villas are located within PGA Village. They are very close to the PGA Golf Club, PGA Historical Museum and the 35-acre PGA Learning Center featuring: PGA of America Golf Schools. While the golfer gets all he can imagine from a golf vacation, there are many spas and other attractions in Port St Lucie Florida to keep the spa experience alive.
